Coffee Filter Snowflakes

Supplies
Coffee filters
Washable markers
Water
Scissors
Iron (optional)
Design
Pass out the coffee filter(s) and markers. Using wintery blues, purples and pinks are ideal!
Have everyone colour on their coffee filter. Since the colours will eventually blend together, it doesn’t really matter what gets drawn. The more coverage, the better. It will make the colours really pop!
Use an eyedropper or small measuring spoon to drop water onto the coffee filters. You want the entire coffee filter to be saturated, but not soaking or it will take ages to dry.
2. Dry
Leave the snowflakes to dry. You can either leave them sitting overnight, or you can dry them in the oven at 115 F/50 C for 30 minutes. Keep an eye on them because after too long they will start curling at the edges.
3. Fold & Cut
Fold the right corner of the coffee filter to the left so that it is 1/3 of the way over.
Fold the left corner of the coffee filter so that the edges line up on the right (if you open it up to check, you should have perfect thirds).
Fold the coffee filter in half one last time.
Taking scissors, cut out the pieces from your folded coffee filters to make your snowflakes. You can cut half circles, half hearts, half diamonds, half teardrops, and all sorts of other shapes to make a beautiful snowflake! When you cut off the tip, it will give you a hole in the centre.
Open them up to see the beautiful patterns you’ve made!
Optional: You can place snowflakes on a piece of parchment paper and iron over them to make them nice, stiff and flat for hanging or using as decorations.
