Sorting Soft Socks
Original Source: What We Do With Grandpa
The primary objective of a sensory activity like this is to soothe and reduce the anxiety that frequently accompanies dementia. The power of touch can be very powerful and, when coupled with a simple life skill like sorting socks, it’s even better.
Supplies
Socks (the more colorful and fuzzier, the better!)
Pringles cans
Hot glue
Scissors
Unless using the snack size, cut the pringles cans down (about halfway) to fit in your box
Hot glue the cans inside the box to make individual cubby holes for the socks
Set the socks out and have your participant roll the socks up and insert a pair into each cubby hole
Tip: Run the socks through a tumble dryer for a few minutes to get them nice and warm. This adds an extra level of comfort to the activity. Folding washcloths or towels right out of the dryer is another great task!
